Information on all the candidates source of funds can be found here:
http://www.buncombecounty.org/governing/depts/Election/candidateInfo.htm

Of Particular note are the remarkable number of developers and real estate firms supporting Charles (wal-mart) Worley's campaign. See:
http://www.buncombecounty.org/common/boe/candidates_2005/Worley35DayReport.pdf

Why has OurAsheville.org Endorsed these candidates?

These have already show the ability to and interest in working together on city council. Their combination of experience, environmental stewardship, community support, and fresh perspective on the challenges Asheville faces make them the ideal group of candidates for this year's elections.

Existing council members have already expressed an interest in working with these candidates as well. (see Brownie Newman's letter)

How can you help?

  • Spread the word! Print and post the Democracy for America Flyer
  • Make sure all your friends vote in both the primary and the general election
  • Donate if you can to the candidates of your choice (there's a lot of developer money lining the pockets of the Worley, Dunn, Mumpower alliance).

Excerpt from Councilman Newman's E-news letter:

I am asking all my friends to support the re-election campaign of progressive Montford City Councilwoman Holly Jones. Holly has been endorsed local and national progressive organizations including Democracy For America www.democracyforamerica.com, Match Our Mountains www.matchourmountains.org, and the Sierra Club www.wenoca.asheville.nc.us. If you'd like more information about Holly's campaign, visit her website www.hollyjonesasheville.com.

If you would like to show your support for Holly's re-election campaign, here are three ways you can help:

Put up a yard sign. Just email me your address and a sign will be delivered to you. Volunteer on election day. We need people to help work the polls and call people to remind them to vote. Email me if you would like to help. Help us celebrate! Holly's campaign supporters will be celebrating at Jack of Woods after the polls close at 7:30 PM on election day. Come on down!

Other City Council candidates that I am encouraging my friends to learn more about are Robin Cape www.robinforasheville.com and Chris Pelly. Robin has a background as a small businessowner and has served on the Woodfin Water Board. Chris lives in Haw Creek and is the President of the Coalition of Asheville Neighborhoods. For Mayor, I am supporting Terry Bellamy www.terrymbellamy.com.

Whoever is your preferred candidate, be sure to get out and vote!
