2005 City Council Anti-endorsements:

A lot of the problem boils down to representation. Worley, Mumpower, and Dunn believe they can act as they please, regardless of their constitutients wishes. As the Mountain Express aptly put it after one city council meeting, "...some began to question whether their opinions carry any weight at all with City Council." (reference)

Here's a short list of good reasons to vote against Worley, Dunn, and Mumpower, all of whome have:

  • Voted to authorize commercial logging in the Asheville Watershed-- our primary source of drinking water.
  • Allowed the DOT to plan an 8-lane superfreeway through the heart of West Asheville.
  • Authorized the Super-Walmart developers to exceed the amount of traffic and congestion agreed to with local neighborhoods and allowed them to break development laws with no repercussions.
  • Allowed the developers of Campus Crest to break promises made during their project approval process with no repercussions.
  • Continued to allow Greenlife Grocery to operate in spite of multiple UDO violations and great outcry from local residents.
  • Voted in favor of development without requiring developers to pay for infrastructure improvements needed to support their projects.

It's time for accountable leadership that doesn't sell our city down the river.

And for individual good reasons by candidate:

Worley:
"The UDO should always be enforced." (reference)
Except when it's a new business development he has a direct interest in. See greenlife UDO code violations.

Mumpower:
Stealing Crack Cocaine is fun!

Dunn:
Because everyone deserves to get yelled at from time to time when "the hand of subversive environmentalism"
is in action. (reference)
